The Finance Forum, one of the most coveted fora of TAPMI with its legacy spanning over a decade, has gradually evolved into a strong scaffold for building long-standing and mutually beneficial relationships between the corporate and student communities. The Finance Forum is the “Cradle of Finance” at TAPMI, bustling with activities throughout the year. The forum strives to facilitate the understanding of global finance and business issues to assist in the development of future business leaders. The forum is dedicated to providing its members networking opportunities with students, faculty, alumni, and business leaders, and also gives students a multitude of leadership opportunities within the institute.
Mission and Objectives
Events Organized
The Finance Forum hosts several events through the academic year.
MONEYBHAI: This is a week long event which requires teams to trade in a simulated Stock Market scenario with a virtual corpus. This is held with the intention of acquainting students with online trading. An initial corpus of Rs. 2,500,000 is given to each team at the start of the event. The onus is on the team to achieve the maximum portfolio value at the end of the event. This game tests the understanding of the teams about the stock markets and their adroitness in picking the right stocks. The winner is duly rewarded.
GLOBAL INVESTOR: Investing Skills tested to spread a corpus of 10 million TAPMI dollars across five countries and three investing avenues. This too is a simulated money game
BUDGET SESSION: This event aims at facilitating panel discussions and open house discussion sessions to dissect the Union Finance Budget, to create an awareness and understanding of the same.
CRY OUT LOUD: This event has become a huge success, and has earned a good reputation. The event was sponsored by The Hindu during Atharva 2008, the annual fest of TAPMI. The game is based on the traditional concept of trading in stock markets whereby traders shout the prices of the stocks to be bought or sold.
BOARD ROOM and Help Sessions for students: Help sessions are provided for students to help them increase their familiarity with basic finance concepts. Also, a boardroom session is conducted to encourage research in the area of finance.
Upcoming Events:
Panel Discussion: In month of November 2009, the Finance Forum has plans to invite eminent personalities from the industry to participate in a panel discussion on some boiling topics related to finance. The target audience will be the faculty and students of TAPMI.
Guest Lectures and Seminars: The Finance Forum, in association with other committees at TAPMI, is also planning to organize guest lectures and seminars periodically to encourage knowledge sharing and expertise.
Newsletter: The Finance Forum is contemplating on publishing a bi-monthly newsletter which will periodically update TAPMI faculty and students on happenings in the finance domain.
