Independence Day Celebration 2017

This year India celebrated its 70th year of Independence, commemorating the nation’s Independence from British rule and paying tribute to the brave freedom fighters who laid down lives to achieve it. Over 900 students from TAPMI, along with the faculty and staff members, gathered on this auspicious morning to hoist the National Flag and gloriously sang the National Anthem. The ceremony was led by the Director, Prof Madhu Veeraraghavan, who then went on to address the gathering. This was followed by a few words by the President of the Student Executive Council- Philip Franklin. On this day, the Director formally established the TAPMI Centre for Inclusive Growth and Competitiveness. The Centre takes forward TAPMI’s engagement with the Manipal/Udupi community with the aim to strengthen and institutionalize the sustainability agenda at TAPMI.
As part of the celebrations, the TAPMI Toastmasters organised an Open Speech Competition, which saw a great student turnout. Several themes were discussed including Are Indians Racist, Backward Classes Reservation- still needed. The final round was a debate on the topic #HasIndiaBecomeTrulyIndependent.
