Leadership Lectures by Ms. Chitra Ramakrishna
Ms. Chitra Ramkrishna, Joint Managing Director of National Stock Exchange India Ltd, delivered a lecture on “Leadership Lessons in Institution Building” at TAPMI. This lecture organized by T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal is ninth in the line of the Silver Jubilee Leadership Lecture Series. This initiative is part of institute’s vision, to nurture future leaders by providing a platform for the young business minds to interact with the great leaders of today.
Ms. Chitra Ramkrishna was accompanied on the dais at TAPMI Greens by Dr. A.S.Vasudeva Rao (Director, TAPMI), Dr. Simon George (Dean – Academics TAPMI), and Professor Chowdari Prasad (Dean of Planning and Development, TAPMI). Acknowledging that institute building is a process that needs to be carried by a leader by taking initiatives at local and global level, Dr. Rao highlighted the importance of institute building in today’s world. Dr. Simon George introduced Ms. Chitra Ramkrishna by elaborating on her contributions to the Indian stock markets.
Ms. Ramkrishna, who holds a degree from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK was listed as one of the most powerful women in Indian business by Business Today in 2008 and subsequent years. She was also a part of the core team that set up the National Stock Exchange.
Ms. Ramkrishna interacted with the audience on diverse aspects of Institution Building. Speaking on the topics, she shared her insights on the components that led to success of NSE. She mentioned that success needs efforts and patience and cannot be achieved in an instant.
Ms. Ramkrishna depicted the market scenario of India 20 years back and elaborated how the absence of risk management affected the markets. She acknowledged the fact that NSE played an important role in bringing about a paradigm shift in Indian financial market by discouraging the absence of transparency, improper practices and depleted role of investors in the market. Ms. Ramkrishna emphasized that demutualisation, hunger to learn, credibility in the system and a rule-bound market objective were the some of the guiding principles which led her team to achieve the objective of NSE – to transform Indian markets.
